Former CIA Counterintelligence Director James Jesus Angleton, also known as the “poet spy,” described this intelligence game as the “Desert of Mirrors,” a term borrowed from a poem by T.S. Eliot called Gerontion (the name is Greek for “little old man,” and the poem is an interior monologue in which he recounts the opinions and impressions of an older man describing post-WWI Europe through the eyes of a man who lived most of his life in the 19th century). In the world of intelligence, in the search for truth, it is difficult to distinguish reality from its reflection, it is an illusion, like a hall of mirrors. I am also a huge Fassbender fan, so keep these things in mind. I have seen others bash this writing. I simply disagree. It can be very mysterious and sometimes a little unclear, but it all adds up and keeps me very intrigued and interested. I feel like the other main actors have been very solid in their roles so far. Fassbender is great, but a little subdued. Although that will change of course depending on the upcoming announcements. Also the actress Jodie Turner. Smith is new to me, but I love her so far. You can feel that the case is really bubbling under the surface, so I’m looking forward to the next episodes.
