The director of the previous two films, Paul King, decided not to direct this part
Tale
Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now lives in the Bear Retirement Home. With the Brown family in tow, an exciting adventure follows when a mystery throws them on an unexpected journey. However, he pitched the idea for this third film and was involved as an executive producer.
Paddington in Peru is a pretty nice if unremarkable movie
Featured on The Graham Norton Show: Billy Crystal/Emily Mortimer/Hugh Bonneville/Pharrell Williams/Michael Kiwanuka (2024). Sure, it doesn’t reach the heights of Paddington 2, but it’s probably on par with the first one. With a different director at the helm, this film also has a different angle as it takes the action outside of London and places it in the jungles of Peru.
It makes for an interesting enough story that flows quite well and keeps a decent pace
This is probably a wise choice as it helps the film feel fresh and different compared to the other two. It also gives room for a slightly different type of story, with this one perhaps being more adventurous and exciting. The humor is a bit mediocre, but it’s definitely aimed more at kids, so that just reflects my age more than anything.
It is beautiful and gentle
I also think the emotional side is a little lacking. I remember Paddington 2 making me cry, but this one seems a little more gentle. Actually, I think that word sums up this movie.
